  Caring for the Caregivers: How Volunteer Teams Can Impact Wellness:

  Who cares for your caregivers? In a time when stress and fatigue are at their highest in the world of healthcare, clinicians are hard to come by and the acuity level of patients is rising, what is your team doing to make a difference? Participants in this session will review Family Systems Theory and discuss how hospitalization impacts caregivers along with being able to identify signs of burn out and fatigue in hospital staff. Using this as a building block, the presenters will provide an overview of programs and offerings implemented through Volunteer Services at Children’s Health in Dallas, Texas to promote caregiver wellbeing.

  Webinar Objectives:

  1. Attendees will gain an understanding of Family Systems Theory and how hospitalization impacts caregivers.
  2. Attendees will be able to recognize signs of burn out and professional fatigue.
  3. Participants will discuss trends in healthcare priorities related to patient and family centered care.
  4. Participants will leave this session with the tools needed to identify key stakeholders and partners to implement successful volunteer-led programs.
  5. Attendees will explore a variety of volunteer-led programming opportunities related to caregiver wellness.

  Speaker Biography:

  Julie Powell has over 20 years of experience in pediatric healthcare. Starting her career as a Child Life Specialist, Julie worked with a variety of pediatric populations including HIV/AIDS, Nephrology and Emergency Department. After moving into the world of volunteering over 12 years ago, Julie now serves as the Director of Auxiliary Services at Children’s Health in Dallas, Texas leading Volunteer Services, The Women’s Auxiliary Children’s Corner Gift Shop, Concierge services and two Starbucks locations. Julie has an MS in Child Development and Family Studies from the University of North Texas and a BS in Sociology from Dallas Baptist University.
