We use an "activity cart" at one of our campuses.  We offer ear plugs, stress balls, sleep masks, lip balm, hand sanitizer, magnifying rulers (for reading), puzzle books, adult coloring books with colored pencils, and crossword books.  These volunteers are also asked to do a quick visual check of the room - overflowing trash, dishware from meals, etc.  And are asked to check in with the patient to see if they need anything.  These needs are then passed along at the nurses station.

We have a comfort cart in our cancer hospital.  Lip balm, back scratches, journals, Model Magic (for handprints), soft lighting (tea candles) and soft blankets are all very popular on our cart.

Our hospital is planning to implement a "Comfort Cart" which will round to all patient areas.  For those who already have this in place, do you have any best practices to share?  Most popular items?  Specific hours for rounding?  Other considerations?

    Thank you!
